Williamsburg
Devocion
69 Grand St, Brooklyn, NY
A converted warehouse in Williamsburg with cathedral ceilings, brick walls, and light from every direction. Devoción is the kind of café you walk into and immediately understand. The pour-over bar in the back handles a single-origin rotation that turns over fast enough to keep you trying new beans. The Madagascan vanilla latte is the one most regulars order despite themselves. Mornings turn quickly — most tables open by 11. The back room with the long communal table is the work room; the front is for people who came for the photos.

Ambience
Cathedral ceilings, hanging plants, a long bar.
When to go
After 11. The morning rush turns over fast, but before then it's elbow-to-elbow with photographers.
Where to sit
The back room with the long communal table. The front benches face the window — fine for 30 minutes, hard for two hours.
What to order first time
Cortado. The shot here pulls bright but balanced. Then a single-origin pour-over if you're staying.
What I'd skip
The vanilla latte unless you're craving sugar. It's good but it's not why this place is good.
